One Week

Our baby Lucy is one week old today. Here are some tidbits about her first week of life....

~ She had to go to the doctor at 48 hours old to have blood drawn and check her bilirubin levels. They came back ok, however, she's still a little yellow and has the best tan of anyone in the family.
~ At the doctor's office, she weighed in at 6 lbs, 12 oz.
~ With the exception of one night, she usually eats every 3 hours for about 30 minutes and then goes right back to sleep (bless her).
~ She loves to be held and prefers to be swaddled when sleeping.
~ Has napped in the pack n' play, crib, and swing, but is not a fan of the bouncy seat yet.
~ She has 3 siblings who just adore her and run to peek over the side of the pack n' play first thing every morning just to look at her.
~ She has slipped right into the groove of our family and it's like she's always been here - guess that means we will keep her!

Just Some Pictures

Lucy had her first sponge bath last night and now she smells so fresh and clean!

This morning she was actually awake for a while so we did a little hanging out on the quilt Grammy made for her.

Coming Home

After asking sweetly if we could leave a day early, both the pediatrician and my OB gave us the go ahead and we busted out of the hospital when our girl was a mere 26 hours old. It was so nice to get home and we've been doing great ever since!

Now Lucy is all dressed in the outfit Grammy picked out for her and ready to go!

We had to switch hats because the other one kept falling over her eyes. She has the tiniest head!

Although she's not a fan of the car seat here, she did settle down and slept the entire way home.

Sam has been so (surprisingly) sweet with Lucy.

Lucy's Birth Day

What a day! Marshall and I got to the hospital and all checked in by 6:45 am, Friday, January 21. At 8:10 the doctor broke my water and I was almost 4 cm at that point. Ten minutes later they started my pitocin in order to get my contractions regulated. The anesthesiologist finished up my epidural by noon and I was 6 cm. I sent a text at 1:46 saying I was 10 cm and we were just waiting for the doctor to arrive so that I could start pushing. One push later our sweet Lucy was born at 1:51 pm (same exact time as her sister)! We got to love on her with Ninny and Grandy for about an hour before they took her to the newborn nursery in order to weigh her, bathe her, and give her a good once over before they released her to us.

In the meantime, Pop and Grammy arrived with the kids but Lucy was still in the nursery so we hung out for a while and waited. And waited, and waited, and waited! Finally the nurse came to let us know that once she calmed down, they noticed an irregular heartbeat and the pediatrician ordered and EKG just to check things out. Marshall and I went to the nursery so that I could feed her while everyone else went out to dinner. While we were back there the guy came to do the EKG so we got to watch our baby girl get hooked up to wires and tested.

After that we had to wait and wait and wait some more, but the nurse finally brought Lucy down to my room with the good news that everything looked normal on the EKG and there's no need to worry about her heart. Her siblings (and grandparents) finally got to meet her for real, instead of just checking her out through the windows in the newborn nursery. Having our family of six together for the first time was a precious moment that I will never forget. The kids were so excited and we're all so thankful that God protected our little baby girl.

Pop and Grammy finally got to hold her after a very long day of waiting.

Lucy was kind enough to do a little shopping before she was born and got new toys for her big siblings. Buzz, Woody, and Jessie certainly were a big hit!

It was a long day but we certainly are thrilled to finally have our girl here so we can love on her! She looks like Anna, but with Jack's hair, and when she pokes her lip out to cry she looks just like Sam! She has big feet for such a tiny baby and the longest fingers I've ever seen on a newborn. Already, Lucy is the perfect addition to our family and we love her to pieces!
